Ultimately, there is one thing you need to do if you want to succeed.
Doesn’t matter what it is you want to succeed at, whether it is being a millionaire, being happy, building a business, or finding the partner of your dreams.
There is just a single thing you need to do.
You need to focus on it with laser like intensity and make sure your every waking moment is focused on it.
Weigh up every action you take and see if it will take you closer or further away from your desired target. If it will take you closer, do it. If it won’t, don’t.
Simple huh?
In real life it is much harder for people because life gets in the way or they don’t actually know what it is they want.
Life is full of distractions, it’s one of the great things about it, and if you let it, life will distract you completely from your desired goal and you’ll never get there. Or at the very least, you’ll realise you didn’t get there just a little bit too late.
Life is going to throw curve balls at you and try to take you away from your desired goal. It’s going to happen, but if you really want to get there then you need to focus your mind on it and make it happen.
Some years ago I decided I wanted to build a successful business and make a difference in people’s lives. I sat down and worked solid for about two weeks on a plan and building a business.
Then life interfered and I got distracted and started working half heartedly on the business.
Two years later I realised I was no closer to my goal so started to work furiously again towards it. Life again distracted me and I got caught up in everything else and my goal slipped to the back of my mind.
This cycle repeated itself a half dozen times before I realised what was going on and decided to make some serious changes.
I sat down and made a proper step by step plan to reach my goal and spent time every single day working towards it. I will sit up after midnight just to do my actions for the day so I get closer to my goal. I will get up at 5am in order to do what I need to do for the day.
I am constantly thinking about my goals and life still distracts me and gives me other things to think about. My little boy has chicken pox now and a cold and isn’t very well, but I write this as I sit near his room ready to go in to him when he disturbs in his sleep.
Anthony Robbins is known for saying “If you are committed you will find a way” and at the time I first heard this (8 years ago) I disagreed and had lots of excuses. I had lots of “I can’ts” and good reasons (read excuses) why he was wrong.
It’s only in the last few months that I’ve really understood what he meant by this. When you stop making excuses to yourself (and that’s the only person you are making excuses to) and focus your intention laser like at your goal then you will find a way.
You will do whatever it takes when it stops being a nice to have to something you’d like to do and becomes an absolute must. When this happens, the excuses stop, the distractions fade and you make it happen.
Think about the things you want in life and ask yourself this …
1) Do you really want it? I mean really, can’t live without having it, want it?
2) What do you need to do in order to make it happen?
3) How can you make this happen?
You may be surprised how much slack time you have in your day to make your dreams come true. Read books in the toilet. Listen to audio programs in the car when commuting to work. Switch the TV off and work towards your goal. Find a mentor to help you.
If you are committed then you will find a way.
I promise you.
Decide what you want.
Commit to it.
Take whatever steps you need in order to get there.
What do you want in life and how committed are you? Are you going to achieve it?

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackI came all the way to tell you that I am today one day a way from opening the success gate to my dream. On Monday 15 December 2008 I will hold the key to open the door to my success.
I invite you today Saturday 13 December 2008 to walk beside me. Life interfered so many times in my dream and it seemed so far away. When the world thought I will collapse I stood there holding my dream. That part of my mind kept the dream in a safe place and walked it through the storms until I reached the door.
Thank you for reaching me.
